COURSE CORRECTIONS VS. CATASTROPHES
Okay Monday Motivators, did that title wake you up today? What some people consider disasters, failures, or mishaps, star achievers consider course corrections. When things at work don’t quite go your way, or you didn’t get that raise or promotion, or the big project you worked on got turned down, you can turn that into a learning experience.
Course correction is about taking responsibility being proactive taking the initiative to turn things around. It is about seizing the moment and making the best of it that you can.
This week, be a Course Corrector!

Be a Course Corrector
1. Course Correctors own up to their mistakes. They know they are not perfect and that’s okay.
2. Redirect the path of events. When something does not go as planned, Course Correctors know how to redirect the path so things still work out.
3. Look for alternatives.
4. Use people effectively to help you get to the next step, give you information or help you see another perspective.
5. Choose different approaches. If you have been trying to make something happen or change something at work and it isn’t after numerous attempts, you may have to do something extreme/unique. For example, if you have attempted numerous times to get your boss to have more one-on-ones with you and you get pushed aside, bring a timer into his or her office, turn it to 5 minutes, and say, “I’m only going to take 5 minutes of your time.”
6. Use course-correcting communication, such as, “I prefer or I choose.”
7. Use self-management tools. Instead of feeling like the victim of events at work, manage your thinking, be proactive, and take positive action.
“Once we get trapped into believing that outside factors shape our lives, we begin to act helpless and needed.” -- Stephen R. Covey
