Okay admins, I know you can help with this. Nancy wrote Jasmine a long e-mail for me to answer about how to handle office birthdays. It appears they have already covered the gamut of what to do, but still can't please everyone. Here are some of the things they have done in the past.

I recently had a great conversation with a 25-year experienced admin. Her name is Paula. She was wondering how to deal with a manager who seemed to be intimidated by her knowledge and go-getter attitude. She has worked with this person for about 3 years. This is important to keep in mind because as I told Paula, she needed to establish boundaries in the very beginning as the manager became aggressive in her attitude and delegating with Paula.

Janice works in a department where there is a lot of sensitive financial information which cannot be outsourced to storage. She has limited space and her work area has become the storage area for everything.

Jasmine surprised me with this nice vase of fresh flowers this morning. They were already sitting on my desk when I walked in to my office. No, they weren't for my recent birthday--she already gave me a gift for that. They weren't because I was having a bad week or feeling down. She just wanted me to have them.
