Joan Burge's Administrative Blog

The First Administrative Blog-a-thon Starts Here

Posted by: Joan Burge on 3/30/2009

At Office Dynamics, our passion is not only training assistants to shine and excel, but bringing national attention to this wonderful profession. The week of April 20 is Administrative Professionals Week and April 22 is Administrative Professionals Day.

We are inviting admins from across the globe to participate in what we hope will be the world largest Blog-a-thon for the Administrative Assistant / Professional.

Just comment on any of our latest blog postings and be eligible for a drawing of Office Dynamics products.

We want to create an early buzz about this special tribute to the profession so that national media will want to write about this. If we can get Administrative Assistant Training DVD'sthousands of admins to comment at the Joan Burge Blog, it will be easy for Office Dynamics to send Press Releases to numerous media outlets and craft messages that will gain attention.

We also want this to be fun for admins and give away prizes for your participation. It’s very simple and will only take 2 minutes of your time. So, here is how it works.

Starting April 1, we will post a blog a day through Wednesday, April 22, 2009. All we ask is that you:

  1. Come to the Office Dynamics web site.
  2. Click on the Blog tab, read and comment on any of the latest Blog entries.
  3. We are looking for positive, upbeat comments. You can either comment about that particular Blog topic or write something as simple as “Admins Rock!”.
  4. You can post a comment every day, if you want. This will increase your chances of winning a daily prize and the Super Star Admin Package!
  5. Please forward this to all your admin peers. We know you have a huge network and we need your help!

Prizes!

To be eligible to win a prize or prizes, you must provide your e-mail address when you comment so we can contact you.Joan Burge - Underneath It All

Each day, we will “draw” a winner for one of Joan Burge’s books. We will announce the winner in the “Online Newsroom” area of the Home Page the following day on our Office Dynamics web site.

Our SUPER STAR ADMIN PACKAGE ($500 value) includes all of Joan’s two ground-breaking books, DVDs, and CDs for administrative assistants. We will “draw” the name of the winner on April 22, 2009 Administrative Professionals Day and announce the winner on our web site on April 23!

    • I'm excited about this opportunity to review 26 weeks of webinars. It's great information to take in and utilize in our day to day activities, and it's an added bonus for my development plan for the year as well. Kudos to you, Joan, for giving all of the admins of the world this wonderful gift.

    • Joan, your first webinar was great! I look forward to the remaining sessions! Thank you for taking on this task and providing a way for admins to renew their minds and spirits.
• I really don't know what to say. The first webinar was excellent! I have been in this profession for over 25 years. Back just a few years ago, it was taking orders and doing tasks. Then I was laid off from that company and started another. At this new job they expect their admins to think, to take the ball and run with it, and to push yourself out of your box. I struggled the first year and then embraced the changes. Now here comes Joan who's challenging me to go to the next level with these webinars. I'm ready to leap to the next plane. I'm looking forward to next week!

    • Yesterday was the first opportunity I had to sit with my executive and show him Joan's newest book. I also pointed out the chapter for executives concerning utilizing your greatest asset. He said, I'm not sure I know what my greatest asset is or if many executives do". I looked at him and said, well, "I'm your greatest asset". He looked surprised and said, "you are right and so is my wife". I'm going to go home and tell her that and talk to my cabinet about what my greatest asset is in the office.

    • I like my job and I like that most of the people here don't seem to see me as just a lowly admin. They appreciate my experience and talent and use both whenever possible. I'm also enjoying the webinar.

    • Apr 02 2009, 4:05 PM Sue Kaplan Anderson
    • I was so invigorated and excited after watching the webinar yesterday and thank you Joan and Jasmine for your efforts in getting it to us all, and at no cost! I think too many times administrative staff get passed over for trainings especially when there is a cost associated to it. I presented this webinar to my supervisor and he not only agreed that I need to take the time to be a part of them but also encouraged me to get off my chair and get my CPS certification! Our profession is growing and changing, evolving into something more noticeable, needed and valued! Thank you!

    • Hi all - welcome to day 2 of of Administrative Blog-A-Thon - I thank you for the opportunity to support an outstanding group of individuals that without us business would fall apart and no one would ever get a fax or an email correctly again. I enjoy the webinar and than you Joan and Jasmine for giving us the opportunity and free on top of that. Enjoy the day. Diane

    • I'm a 2005 WCA graduate and had the opportunity to network with administrative assistants across the business industry. I have found the value of networking with my peers. Knowledge sharing is a key attribute and grows the company. Each morning when you wake up, you decide how your day will be, start if off with a smile.

    • I attended WCA Part I last week and in the same week was able to attend "Joan Burge - Underneath It All". I am so impressed with the way Joan energized everyone in the room during these two sessions. I can't speak for everyone but I can speak for myself and say that I'm still excited and already started implementing behaviors focused on during these sessions. If you have a chance to attend an Office Dynamics workshop it is definitely a great learning experience.

    • I enjoy being an Administrative Assistant and I love my job. I have finally graduated to having my own office and I love it. This is finally to me - after 36 years - my career. I have received the Certified Administrative Professional rating. I even took an on-line Administrative Assistant course. I also have a boss who supports me and makes me feel I am an important member of the team.

I think the first webinar was great. We do need to value ourselves. We are not only the "out front" people, we are also a big part of the behind the scenes and getting it done people.

    • I enjoy reading the Monday Motivators every week. They give me some good ideas. I thought the first webinar was great. It gets your mind thinking of ways to improve yourself. I know my director appreciates me, she tells me all the time. I am looking for ways to get more involved in the every day business to be able to help my co-workers. I am looking forward to Week #2. Thanks for all you do.

    • I absolutely LOVE being an administrative professional. It is beyond me why people think it's a dead end job. We can go into almost any type of business and pretty much hit the ground running. Administrative Assistants are versatile and adaptable. I've worked for both the over the top appreciative boss to the 'you are not even worth knowing" type of boss. Luckily, the former has been more common than the latter.

The things I learned in both the CWCA program and the Underneath It All program is that I am right in being proud of my chosen career and profession.

    • I watched the first installment of the 26 weeks series and really found myself getting excited. Working for a architectural/engineer firm in Alaska has really opened a lot of doors to expand my knowledge, refine my thinking and to become more goal-oriented. Also being a member of the IAAP has really made me realize just how important it is to be in tune with your work environment and to be up-to-date on newest technologies, etc. Thank you.

    • Thank you Joan for helping admins take their career to the next level. I highly recommend each admin taking 5-10 minutes out each day to read, blog or network with other assistants concerning their career. I am a true believer in training. You have to make yourself better so that you can make your executive look better. Continuing education by reading a couple pages of your book each day will help enhance each administrative professional and to help each one to reach their goal of being an improved administrative professional.

Keep learning, keep networking and keep bloging.

I finished reading "Becoming an Inner Circle" this weekend and plan to re-read it as your webinar tackles the individual chapters. My professional development budget here at work had to be cut due to budgeting issues and I am SO VERY THANKFUL that you are offering a FREE webinar series that actually has some meat to it. Keep up the great work!

    • I love my job and I am very happy that our profession is being recognized for the true power that it has. A few years ago, I worked for a company that didn't hire admins, because "anyone" could do the job! The base of knowledge for an admin is so wide and varied, and has changed so much that we are truly the "Heart of the Company", no matter who we work for!!

Thanks Joan, for bringing our profession to the forefront and giving us the power to voice our opinions and accept credit for our contributions to the work aday world! You help lend credibility and legitimacy to the reality that we're not just paper-pushing, busy-work-doers. We have skills, talents and ideas and WE DO COUNT. We do make a positive difference in our offices. Thank you for helping to get that word out.
