Promote Healthy Habits in Your Kids

Posted by: Joan Burge on 3/17/2009

Some of you may be in the season of motherhood of young children. Children aren’t born with the ability to eat and live healthy. It’s up to you to foster healthy habits. The earlier, the better. Here are some tips:

Work out with your kids.
It keeps you and the children fit. For the kids, a half hour of vigorous outdoor activity twice a day is ideal.

Limit TV.
There are too many commercials for unhealthy foods. And remember; don’t provide snacks unless the kids are hungry.

Make it easy.
Stock up on water, fruits, and vegetables, and nutritious snacks.

Reward with words.
Praise children when they make a healthy food choice on their own.

    • It is hard to get my son to eat any food that is healthy and good for him. He is 2 now and he is a very picky eater. He does like chicken, raisins, fig newton mini squares with the strawberry filling, and he loves apples and cheese. He does get exercise at home when we go outside in the backyard and play. He loves to pick up sticks and put them in a pile. He loves running around in the backyard. I will be layed off in a few days, and with the warmer weather we will be outside more planting flowers and running around.

    • These are great reminders! My daughter loves to work out with me in the morning! Of course, it is more fun for me also to have the company. She is only 4 but can lift weights just like her daddy and I.
